Mother's Day & Wreath

On Saturday, May 3rd, the sisters in our ward Relief Society at church went to Twin Oaks nursing home in La Place to do a little mother's day craft, give a mother's day "happy" that we made, and just spread some cheer through visiting with them. It went really well and all the ladies that participated in the craft loved it, and all the ladies looked beautiful in their handmade broaches by the ladies in our ward! Here is some of what we did (I will have to get more pictures from Susan...she took a few of us all there).

I got the idea for this off of Pinterest. You can find the pattern at http://wendysactivities.blogspot.com/search/label/Fabric%20Flower%20Pins
They are super easy and super cute!

This is the link to the craft we did. We made vases for their table in their room that they can put flowers, potpourri, etc. in. Just something that they can say they made, bring a smile to their faces, and brighten up their room.

All you need is a vase from the $ store, tissue paper, and a shape scrapbook punch (or I just ripped and cut squares for them that worked perfectly), modge-podge (or watered down elmer's glue), a sponge brush, and about an hour to hour and a half.

The other craft I did this week, was making a 4th of July/Memorial Day (patriotic) mardi gras bead wreath. I love it! I just got two 12 inch wire wreath frames at walmart ($1.27 (or $1.77-pregnant brain) each), some red- white- and blue mardi gras beads, a bow from the $ store (that Keaton picked out!), and some floral wire to hold it together. And....wah-la!

(See my previous craft post about mardi gras bead wreaths for tutorial)

I also had some sewing projects I was working on this week, but I will have to post that on my next blog update....it is a surprise! The projects are finished, I am just not ready to reveal yet.

Girl's Night: Mardi Gras Bead Wreaths

This past Friday night (the 25th) we had our 2nd monthly girl's night. We are all so excited to be starting up a Girl's Night and the first two have gone fabulously I think. Last girls night we made scarves and now we have made mardi gras bead wreaths. We all had a great time! Everyone's wreaths were looking great, we made new friends, had lots of laughs, and good food!

If you'd like the instructions for how to make these, here is the link we followed ( http://sew-inlove.blogspot.com/2011/02/mardi-gras-bead-wreath-tutorial.html ). You can also use other colored beads and make 4th of July wreaths, St. Patrick's Day, Valentines Day, etc. I am going to be making many of these during our stint in Louisiana :) They are so easy and only take about 2 hours to do. Then just top it off with a cute big bow and wa-la!

Home Depot Kids Workshop

We went on Saturday for our monthly Kids workshop and Jason and Keaton built and painted a fabulous bird bath/feeder! We have yet to hang it up at the house (not sure if we will), but they did a fantastic job!

And I have been working on making broaches for a service project we have coming up at church. Our Relief Society Women's organization in the La Place area at church is going to do a "Mother's Day" get together with the ladies at the Twin Oaks nursing home in town. We are going to do a craft with some, visit, etc. , and we are bringing them a little "happy" mother's day broach. Here is what the ladies and I have been working on. (we need like 70!)

I love projects! I am sure I will be posting more soon!

CRAFTY PROJECTS

Girls Night:
I had a girl's night over at my house at the beginning of March that I "named/themed" it Pinterest Party. It was so much fun and we had a great turn out! We had excellent snacks, learned the 'how-to's' of pinterest and answered each other's questions about it, and made these cute scarves that my mom introduced me to last year. All the girl's scarves turned out beautifully and we all wore them to church that Sunday! ;) it was so fun! I can't wait for this month's girls night and doing Mardi Gras bead wreaths (I will have to take a picture of mine and post it when we all make ours..and I will actually take some of us doing the crafts this time lol) .

Keaton's Crafts and Projects :
We have discovered the Home Depot Kids club and love going and doing their craft once a month. This craft was our 2nd time to go, and we made a trojan horse penny bank! Keaton loved it! And Aunt Amanda and Lee Lee got to help! While pops was shopping :)

Keaton's other crafts we have been doing are water color painting (we do that a lot!!), and our most recent "project" was for Dr. Seuss's birthday! We made Horton elephants from Horton Hears a Who, fish from One Fish Two Fish RED Fish BLUE Fish, and we made our own Foot Book. The Foot Book was probably his favorite. He wanted to keep painting and stamping our feet all day lol

Daddy Projects:
We not too long ago decided to upgrade Keaton to a "big boy bed" as he calls it all the time now. We debated for the longest time on if we should do a loft type thing, or just a storage platform type thing. We ended up going with the storage platform thing lol that way Keaton could keep his tent up in his room. We of course went to Pinterest and Pops (my dad) as our sources lol to see how we should build this thing. And with Creative Pops and Engineer Daddy (and of course help from this amazing woman on this blog http://ana-white.com...seriously she has done everything and has measurements...pricing...everything step by step what you need to do!) this is what we came up with.
